Why Quit?Happy Baby

Quitting smoking early in the pregnancy is best, however quitting at any time will still help you and your baby. There are many immediate benefits of quitting.

As soon as a person stops smoking, your body begins to recover:

  • After 6 hours the heart rate slows down and blood pressure drops
  • After 12 hours the nicotine is out of the system and carbon monoxide is out of your lungs that now work more efficiently
  • After 2 days taste buds come alive and your sense of smell improves
  • After 5 days most nicotine by-products have gone
  • Within 1 month your blood pressure returns to its normal level and your immune system begins to show signs of recovery
  • Within 2 months the blood flow to your hands and feet improves
  • After 12 months their chance of dying from heart disease is half that of a continuing smoker.
